John Labmeier serves as FEG’s general counsel providing senior management with advice on company strategies and overseeing the work of outside counsel. He is also directly involved in complex business transactions and negotiating critical contracts. Additionally, he serves as the corporate secretary for FEG.
John began his legal career in private practice with a small law firm. From there, he held various legal counsel positions with Union Central Life, Summit Mutual Funds, and Summit Investment Partners before joining the FEG team in 2011. He has nearly 40 years of experience as a business, employee benefits, and securities law attorney. John is known to be a lover of jokes, and always makes sure to share a few if you are in ear shot. He also believes that one can truly make a difference with a strong work ethic and by simply being kind to others.
In addition to his position on FEG’s Leadership Team, John works closely with Pro Seniors—a United Way Organization—in providing free legal advice to senior citizens in Ohio on topics such as Medicaid planning, consumer rights, and landlord-tenant matters.
When not telling cheesy jokes, John enjoys spending time with his family—including his two daughters, whom he enjoyed coaching in basketball and volleyball when they were younger. He has coached girls’ basketball for the last 27 years and has also taught a middle school religion class for the past 33 years. Once a week, you can catch him at his neighborhood LaRosa’s Pizzeria, sharing a pie with some of his close friends from grade school.
