FEG’s Community Foundation Survey collects data on financial and enterprise topics to help inform community foundations nationwide. We seek to provide insights on issues relevant to community foundations today, so that they may make a greater impact on tomorrow.
The survey began in 2015 as a client request for peer comparison on asset allocation and performance. Recognizing a lack of information on enterprise topics, we expanded the scope of the survey and made it available to community foundations nationwide for a more comprehensive view of the landscape. Since inception, more than 185 community foundations have participated.
The 2020 survey is now open for responses! Focused on investment and enterprise topics, such as spending policy, responsive investing (SRI/ESG, Impact, PRI), and donor advised funds, the survey is intended to help inform decision-making by sharing the collective knowledge of the community foundation field. Participants receive the full survey report and an extended version of our interactive peer analysis tool.
COVID-19 has affected hundreds of thousands globally. During this unprecedented time, protecting our families and communities is our primary focus. Although the pandemic has greatly disrupted daily lives, we understand that the survey provides valuable information to community foundations across the nation. As such, the survey will remain open until further notice as we continue to monitor the situation. We hope that this will allow more foundations the opportunity to participate during this uncertain time.
Thank you to those who have already participated. The deadline extension will ultimately delay reporting of results, but we do recognize the value of timely reporting and will continue to communicate updates as they become available.
The 2019 survey had 112 respondents across 35 states, with assets ranging from under $25 million to over $1 billion. We greatly appreciate the time and energy of those who have participated and look forward to increasing the number of participants and improving the usefulness of the content for community foundations in the future.
