2013 FEG Investment Forum

Balancing Risk and Return in a Low-Return Environment

Low bond yields, reasonable stock valuations, an uncertain political and regulatory environment, and sovereign debt crisis in most developed markets provide investors with significant challenges in structuring portfolios. Many investors have lowered their return expectations, and therefore, are determining how they can best meet their long-term investment objectives. Should they increase contributions to their portfolios, reduce payouts/benefits, take on more risk, or re-think their portfolio structure?

Fund Evaluation Group, LLC's (FEG) two-day Forum will delve deeper into how investors can balance risk and return in a low-return environment. Hear from our own strategists and analysts, as well as from external industry experts including:

  • Kenneth French, Roth Family Distinguished Professor of Finance at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Mr. French is famous for his work on asset pricing with Eugene Fama (Fama-French asset pricing models).
  • David Rubenstein, Co-Founder of the Carlyle Group. Mr. Rubenstein is one of the foremost figures in private equity, an asset class which FEG believes will play an increasingly important role for many investors as we move into a low return environment.
  • Byron Wien, Vice Chairman of Blackstone Advisory Partners LP. Mr. Wien spoke at the 2009 FEG Investment Forum, and is best known for his annual list of "Top 10 Surprises."
  • Joshua Friedman, Founding Partner, Co-Chairman, and Co-CEO at Canyon Partners, LLC. Canyon Partners is one of the largest U.S. hedge funds. FEG believes hedge funds will take on an increasingly important role in many investors' portfolios.
  • James Rickards, economist, lawyer, and investment banker with 35 years investment experience.
Mr. Rickards is the author of The New York Times bestseller, Currency Wars, published in 2011.
